The Role

BCEGI UK has an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Site Manager to join our expanding Construction Team. You will be based at our site office in Manchester, but as part of your role you will visit other sites.


As an Assistant Site Manager, you will be required to assist in managing the project team in its delivery of a first-class project namely safety, quality, time and cost.


To continually deliver above and beyond client expectations, forging long term relationships that result in repeat business and promoting the business externally.


You will have a passion for first class delivery, implementing best practice and continuous improvement whilst promoting BCEGI externally.



With a flexible approach to supporting all BCEGI activities, preferably but not limited to:


As an Assistant Site Manager, you will perform the following (not limited to):

  • Lead elements of the project team and manage the supply chain to deliver projects to time, cost and quality targets and standards
  • Regularly review short term programmes in line with the overall project programme to ensure completion on time, and ensure that project plans and schedules are robust and optimise project resources and timescales, and are communicated effectively to the project team
  • Understand the relevant Contract terms and conditions for each project
  • Be responsible for people management on elements of the project
  • Ensure that Company procedures and policies are followed
  • Ensure that the Safety and Environmental Management Systems is adhered to on site and to personally set the standard of zero tolerance of unsafe practices and occurrences
  • Carry out safety inspections and ensure management of safe site access and egress routes, creating an environment for the works to be completed in a safe and efficient manner
  • Hands on supervision of resources to ensure effective delivery of the project in respect of safety, environment, quality, programme and finances in accordance with Construction Management Plan
  • Assist in assessing the progress and productivity and implement action for improvement
  • To focus on the elimination of waste within all areas
  • Ensure that all operatives are fully trained and competent to undertake the role and task allocated to them
  • To ensure that all site staff, operatives and visitors are suitably inducted, trained and certified prior to starting work on site
  • Ensure that the site remains tidy at all times and maintains the company brand and image
  • To verify work is being carried out in a way that is compliant with latest design drawings and specification
  • Ensure all on site personnel adhere to the site rules and PPE requirements
  • Ensure all materials are stored in allocated areas to ensure that they are distributed efficiently
  • Ensure all plant on site is fit for use and well maintained
  • Assist in maintaining adequate records of all on site personnel and activities
  • Help to develop best practice and innovative methods of construction
  • To provide regular feedback of production to the Project / Site manager
  • Undertake daily task briefings and toolbox talks as necessary
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as are required by the business

Key Activities:

Assist the Site Management team in ensuring the following:

  • Respond to instructions from the Project/ site manager
  • Ensure that all activities on site adhere to all statutory and company HSE requirements and procedures
  • Implement a clear approach to zero tolerance in respect of health and safety and ensure that this is communicated and managed consistently on the project
  • Undertake regular H&S reviews of the site as required by the company procedures and ensure all actions are closed out effectively and efficiently
  • Deliver / ensure regular toolbox talks and daily task briefings are carried out
  • Maintain a working knowledge of the company HSE policy
  • Ensure that the site appropriately reflects the required company image at all times
  •    Manage the works on site to ensure that it proceeds in accordance with the agreed construction programmes and method statements
  •  Interpreting and understanding contract programmes, drawings and specifications
  • Monitor and control material usage and waste
  • Monitoring and controlling information flow, materials management, sub-contractors, plant, equipment and labour
  • Instruct and ensure trade supervisors understand their responsibilities and carry them out in accordance with company procedures
  • Identify and seek early resolution of information/technical queries from all sources
  • Identifying short term material and plant requirements and assist in ensuring they are available as ordered and when required
  • Monitor subcontractor performance and ensure adequate attendance is provided
  • Monitoring the planned safety arrangements and taking corrective action to ensure compliance
  • Assist in ensuring up to date information is available as and when required
  • Co-ordinate trades and assists with maximising economic efficiency
  • Inducting operatives and ensuring they understand organisational and safety arrangements
  • Monitoring construction work to ensure the as built materials and workmanship satisfy            quality requirements and output performance requirements
  • Control the receipt, inspection, movement and off hiring of plant and equipment
  • Comply with company procedures
  • Identifying variations to the contract and advising commercial team
  • Co-ordinating and controlling the activities of all sub-contractors
  • Assist and advise on the procurement of resources
  • Ensure all appointed subcontractors are competent in terms of H&S, environment, quality and programme
  • Completing and handing over the project in accordance with all drawn and written requirements
  • Promote and maintain the corporate image on the contract
  • Monitor, record and control all operations with regard to time quality safety and environment
  • Recording as built information and maintaining diaries
  • At all times comply with the requirements of the Quality and Safety Management systems
  • Provide best practice buildability advice
  • Encourage best practice and innovation and ensure that it is communicated within the business
  • Ensure duties and responsibilities are properly identified and delegated
  • Protect the company’s assets at all times
  • Keeps records of events and ensures company forms are completed and distributed as required
